At Cedar Recovery in Shellharbour, the sauna is the heart of the studio: a generous communal room where 15 to 20 people can share the heat after training, between contrast rounds, or simply to switch off. Lined throughout in Western Red Cedar and lit by a soft glow from behind the backrests, the room feels calm and enveloping from the moment the door closes.
A double-tier, L-shaped bench wraps two walls, giving every guest a choice of heat, gentler on the lower tier and deeper on the upper. At the centre of the room sits a commercial-grade 22 kW Harvia heater with Wi-Fi control, positioned so heat and steam reach every seat evenly, session after session.
Western Red Cedar was chosen for its warmth, its natural aroma and its stability in constant heat, so the room looks and performs beautifully through a full day of back-to-back sessions. Concealed LED lighting runs behind both tiers of backrests, washing the cedar in warm light and drawing the eye around the room.
The heater is framed by a custom cedar guard rail, keeping guests a safe distance from the hot stones while preserving the clean, all-timber look of the space. Water on the stones releases rolling waves of löyly that fill the room and keep members coming back.
A custom cedar door with a viewing panel and black pull handle frames the entry. Outside, the sauna is clad in Ayous shadow-gap cladding, giving the box clean vertical lines and a pale, refined finish that sits beautifully within the studio.
Cedar Recovery is the kind of space we love to build: a sauna designed to be used often, shared freely and enjoyed for years to come.
“I used Timberhaus for a commercial custom sauna build in my recovery studio, and it’s an absolute showstopper. Everyone who sees it is blown away… “wow” is pretty much the standard response! The quality is incredible. The timberwork, the finish, the care in every detail… you can tell James and the team take real pride in what they build. It’s the heart of the studio and such a statement piece. My business honestly wouldn’t be the same without it.”
